We’re looking for a Backend Engineering Manager to lead our team of talented engineers and ensure the continuous delivery of reliable and high-performing backend services.

About the Role

As a Backend Engineering Manager at Vitals, you will be responsible for the architecture, performance, and scalability of our backend systems that power our suite of e-commerce tools. You will lead a team of smart, motivated engineers to deliver pragmatic, customer-oriented solutions that have a real impact on our merchants' businesses. 

You’ll play a critical role in shaping the future of our backend services while ensuring we stay nimble, efficient, and product-focused.

What You'll DoO

• Drive backend architecture & delivery: Ensure the stability, performance, and scalability of our backend systems, which power over 30,000 stores worldwide.
• Lead a team of skilled engineers: Manage a team of backend developers, guiding them through technical challenges and fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, and efficiency.
• Implement pragmatic solutions: Lead the development of solutions that are product-oriented and customer-focused, striking a balance between technical elegance and delivery speed.
• Work with Symfony, PHP & AWS: Design and build reliable backend systems using Symfony and PHP, leveraging AWS services (e.g., EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, Aurora) to ensure scalability and performance.
• Ensure code quality & best practices: Conduct code reviews, establish coding standards, and develop a solid testing strategy for backend systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver end-to-end features and services.
  

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of backend development experience, with at least 2+ years in a leadership role.
• Strong expertise in PHP (preferably with Symfony framework) and experience building scalable APIs and services.
• Solid understanding of AWS services and how to build, deploy, and maintain infrastructure at scale.
• Proven track record of delivering pragmatic solutions that align with business goals.
• Experience with MySQL and ability to write efficient SQL queries to handle large datasets.
• Strong communication skills and ability to mentor and develop engineers.
• A problem-solving mindset, focusing on delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced, fully remote environment.
